Swing Town Big Band

Swing Town is a traditional 20-piece big band hailing from Maplewood, NJ.  Under the direction of Ben Williams, the group’s mission is to bring classic swing charts and modern jazz masterpieces to the residents of Maplewood and surrounding towns. The group rehearses twice a month at DeHart Community Center and performs several times a year, including two free concerts (winter and summer) and occasionally in night spots, restaurants, and at benefits for local charitable organizations.  Swing Town is run by Maplewood Community Music, a non-profit organization that provides amateur and professional musicians performance opportunities while providing free music programming in Maplewood and other communities.

Reel Melodies

Join the woodwind, brass, and percussion sections of the Maplewood Concert Band as we celebrate music from the big and little screen! Selections include music from The Incredibles, Beauty and the Beast, and more. Ginny will be conducting and playing the clarinet.  Admission is always free; donations are always accepted.

Canticles for Life

Triad Arts Ensemble is partnering with two area churches for the 2024 Canticles for Life AIDS Benefit Concert to raise much-needed funds that will impact many lives. Proceeds raised will directly benefit three NJ organizations that support those impacted by HIV/AIDS and in memory of those lost to the disease, as well as raise awareness, dispel ignorance and help to shine compassion.

Canticles Chairperson Ginny Johnston will conduct the 30-voice Triad Vocal Ensemble, which will feature a mix of styles including traditional anthems, pop arrangements, and brand new works. The Dan Crisci Jazz Trio will offer several instrumental songs, including original selections from Dan’s recent recordings. Rounding out the program will be Abbie Gardner, award-winning singer-songwriter/dobro player.  Additionally, panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on display, and there will be a time of reflection and sharing by representatives from the charities.   Reception to follow each concert.

Gone Missing

Gone Missing is a Vivid Stage production, and is based on interviews with New Yorkers about things that they lost (and found). Ginny will be playing the drums and her husband Dan Crisci is the music director and pianist for the show – with the two of them providing the musical accompaniment for the nine songs in the show. The music, composed by Michael Friedman, is varied, including cabaret, rock, singer/songwriter, classical, and Latin.
